Managed Homes - Mylor

Blue Cedar’s Mylor Bridge development, for older residents, is a mixture of affordable and open market properties, with various sizes of home available.  CSA’s brief was to create a community feel, allowing residents to share a central managed garden area, adding value to the properties.

Initial plans allowed for ten open market homes, but were passed with nine, after negotiation between the developers and the planning authority, which gives a more spacious feel to the development.

These homes have all been designed with future adaptability in mind.  The doorways are all wide enough to allow wheelchair access, and there are strengthened joists in the ceilings to accommodate hoists.  The upstairs bathrooms are planned in such a way that they can be altered into a jack-and-jill arrangement, or a wet room, without adjusting the plumbing, and it is easily possible to set up a bedroom downstairs, should that become necessary in the future.  All these areas which can be adapted are discrete, so that the residents can enjoy their home without the trappings of adaptability for as long as they are able.

The site is at the end of a lane, and borders several existing properties, whose owners were concerned about the new development.  Individual and group meetings were arranged, to discuss overlooking and boundary walls, and construction was achieved without any bad feeling.

Both Blue Cedar and the new residents are pleased with the homes, being both high quality and easy to live in.
