Luxury House, Helford

CSA were approached in 2003 to provide full architectural services for a replacement dwelling, with direct water frontage on a large plot on the Helford River. The brief was to design a contemporary single storey residence with 5/6 bedrooms, feature living room, dining room, large kitchen/breakfast room, garage, games room and swimming pool with self-contained changing facilities. Due to the nature of the proposals and the strict planning legislation regarding replacement dwellings, in terms of volumetric increase in size, CSA first obtained planning consent for the house, garage and games room, then, once part-constructed planning was achieved to extend the newly created "existing building" for the swimming pool. The client specifically wanted to incorporate a sustainable approach to the design and the final building consists of a "super-insulated" timber frame structure, natural solar gain, natural ventilation, geothermal heating system,  "super-insulated floor construction incorporating under floor heating, and "super-insulated" roof coverings, using natural slate, copper and cedum. The final building is in keeping with the surroundings and the garage, games room and swimming pool complex blend into the hillside with the use of green roofs, and being dug into the hillside.
