The new house is in a beautiful location at Mylor Harbour and benefits from views over the Marina, towards the Fal Estuary and surrounding countryside. The site is steeply sloping, requiring a site-specific design to maximise the available views and utilise the gradient. The building design focused on the form of the asymmetric roof integrating a feature atrium. Due to the steepness of the site, the accommodation has been spread over 4 floors, including a two bedroom, self contained annexe at the lower basement level, three further bedrooms and bathroom facilities on the lower ground floor, open plan living/dining/kitchen area, feature entrance, utility and double garage at ground floor level and a spectacular galleried study at first floor with uninterrupted views of the river. The building revolves around a feature 4 storey staircase with atrium over, to allow natural light deep into the heart of the building. An extensive use of natural unpainted timber floor coverings and staircase enhance the feel of the interior. Externally, the design has been kept deliberately simple, using industrial split face blockwork as a plinth and to the chimney. The remainder of the external walling is smooth painted render, simple raised bands to all windows and doors to accentuate the apertures.
