South West Water decommissioned many sites accross the region in Winter 09. csa have produced a design for a striking conversion of this former water reservoir structure, retaining the substantial structure to create an exemplar environmental three bedroom dwelling. The substantial structure has been utilised, providing excellent thermal mass, which has been combined with a super-efficient thermal insulation lining, and south facing glazing with an extrnal timber solar shade, to control passive solr gains. Initial assessments indicate that this building, as an existing strcutre, could achieve a BREEAM Residential "Excellent" rating; far exceeding the building regulation requirements. Due to the nature of the location, a 6Kw wind turbine is also proposed, which will produce more energy than required by the dwelling and its inhabitants; to create a true Carbon Neutral home.
