CSA were commissioned in 2000 as Architects to design the relocation of Stralfors Plc. from two sites in Falmouth to one unit in Cardrew Way Industrial Estate, Redruth, Cornwall. We were originally appointed directly by the Swedish based company Stralfors Plc. to undertake the preliminary design stage. Midas Developments were then commissioned by Stralfors on a Design and Build procurement basis with Midas Construction.
The site has been divided into two individual plots. Unit one has been completed, 6,970 sqm, with planning consent for an additional 2,785sqm. Unit 2 is awaiting an end user but will be 5,185sqm. Each unit has been designed sharing similar materials and features, whilst maintaining individuality and corporate ID of the end user. The main objective was to provide a functional, flexible and high quality scheme.
The site layout has been carefully considered. The front elevation of both units, face the rear of the site and incorporates screen landscaping, benefiting the adjacent residential development. The orientation of the buildings allows the offices to benefit from the magnificent views of the north coast and Carn Brea monument. The proposal nestles into the natural contours of the site to reduce visual impact when viewed from the roadside.
This project represents the largest industrial unit to be completed in Cornwall under objective one grant funding and promotes quality design for functional/working building.
