A large, derelict, aesbestos clad, former industrial/warehouse unit on a contaiminated, former foundry site in Hayle presented a number of clhallenges for a major redevelopment/regeneration opportunity. csa produced a respectful, subtle contemporary design to nestle into the setting, in the conservation area of Hayle. The comprehensive history associated to the site is well documented and the design proposals were conceived to evoke the heritage of the site with specific reference to the use as a foundry. csa undertook a comprehensive contextual analysis and investigated the history and archeology of the site prior to commencing meaningful design work. The development is split into 3 elements, two large residential blocks with a seperate smaller block of 3 apartments with a retail unit adjoining the main road. High quality materials help to enforce the design principles and respect the conservation area.
