A sensitive conversion of a unique barn, to form a charming country home, at the far reaches of te Helford River, set amidst agricultural fields and woodland. The original structure was retained, including the unusual curved "knuckle" on this unusual faceted building, which forms a feature staircase and integrated roof glazing. This contemporary conversion of the old barn has many traditional features, includng mitred hip, slate roof, and the original stonework has ben retained and re-pointed throughout. The building has been insulated and lined throughout, to upgrade the structure to the latest building egulation standards. The building has been planned to create contemporary open plan living, opening out onto the expansive terrace, to make the most of the creek views. The ceiling has been exposed throughout, maximising the presence of the large timber structure, as a striking feature of each of the first floor rooms; as well as integrated roof glazing. Adjacent to the original barn, a new garage and store has been constructed, in a traditional style, to be in-keeping, sharing the palette of materials with the house. csa provided full architectural services and acted as lead consultant from conception to completion. To be completed in July 2009.
