THE OWNERS of a hotel in Porthtowan hope to demolish it and replace it with holiday apartments.
Colin and Sian Hardwick, who have run the Beach Hotel, Westcliff, for the past ten years, plan to build nine holiday letting properties along with their own management accommodation on the site of the current hotel.
Daniel Mitchell, from Cornwall Council planning, said the proposal would be acceptable in principle but “if the units are not used for holiday use the council will wish to negotiate an element of affordable housing”.
The site is situated on the cliffside, overlooking the village and beach, and a portion of the apartments will be for sale while others are rented out.
Tony Martin, associate of csa-architects, Truro, said: “The demolition of the existing, dated hotel and replacement with contemporary, well-designed accommodation fits well with the future context of Porthtowan as a family tourist resort and holiday destination.”
